Dear Brightly

Publishes its entire vehicle down to the trade names of the raw materials, and the tretinoin range to three decimal places. Then makes the subscription compulsory on a clinical argument its own shipping schedule contradicts.

MODEL

Online consultation and photographs, prescriber review, compounding pharmacy, mandatory auto-refill plan cancellable at any time.

The brand verdict

1 PRODUCTS ASSESSED

One product assessed. The formulation disclosure is genuinely good: the FAQ publishes the complete base — ST-Elastomer 10, Q7-9120 silicone fluid, EL-7040 hydro elastomer blend, vitamin E acetate, polyglycerol-3 diisostearate — which is more raw-material detail than several pharmaceutical excipient sections in this register. There is no water in it, so there is no preservative, which is a sound design for a nightly retinoid on a first-time user.

The tretinoin range is published before purchase at 0.015% to 0.089%, which is more than Musely, Dermatica, Curology or Agency offer. The ceiling is respectable. The floor sits below both the acne trial range and the 0.02% at which the only approved photoageing product was trialled, and the page gives a customer assigned that strength no way to know it.

The subscription is mandatory and the justification is retinisation: stop for more than about four weeks, the FAQ says, and you would have to start all over. There is something real underneath that, and it is stated more strongly than the evidence supports, doing commercial work by converting a billing policy into a clinical necessity.

It also does not survive the company's own logistics. A refill is a three-month supply and refills ship every three or four months, customer's choice — so the four-month option produces exactly the gap the argument says is harmful. Either the shipping option is wrong or the argument is. Two other numbers are missing: the niacinamide concentration, and the bottle size.

WHAT THEY GET RIGHT
  • Publishes the complete base ingredient list, by raw-material trade name.
  • An anhydrous silicone elastomer vehicle, so no preservative is required.
  • Publishes the tretinoin strength range before purchase.
  • Publishes trial and refill pricing, supply durations and shipping cadence.
  • States that a starter strength may be used before stepping up, and that the treatment plan shows the current strength.
  • A flat $33 a month across trial and refill, with no step change after the introductory period.
  • Cancellation available at any time, including during the trial.
  • Sells a zinc oxide 10% sunscreen with its full ingredient list published — the correct adjunct for a retinoid user.
