Mechanism
EVIDENCE GRADE A
Low-potency topical corticosteroid. Suppresses the irritation that hydroquinone and tretinoin produce, and contributes independently to depigmentation.
HOUSE NOTES
- Facial skin under a topical corticosteroid for months develops atrophy, telangiectasia and perioral dermatitis, and systemic absorption can suppress the HPA axis. The approved product carries that warning.
- It is why the approved triple combination is licensed short-term only and instructs discontinuation when control is achieved.
- This register has found the same pattern rebuilt with hydrocortisone 1% and sold on rolling monthly billing with no duration stated anywhere.
- The concentration range here spans the approved 0.01% in Tri-Luma up to the 1% hydrocortisone used in compounded equivalents — different steroids at very different potencies, doing the same job.
